As he splurges his country's oil wealth on the most advanced Russian fighter aircraft, tanks, ships and light weapons, the president and de facto strong-man of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Hugo Chavez Frias, declared Wednesday, “No one can change the course of history or impede the awakening of the people in the new era being born in Latin America.”
The Venezuelan president made the statement upon his arrival to New York, where he will participate in the 64th General Assembly of the United Nations.
Closely allied with the 50 year old Castro dinasty in Cuba, Hugo Chavez took the opportunity to call attention to situation in Honduras, namely the attacks on the Honduran people by the de facto regime. Violence by the coup government has increased since the return of constitutional president, Manuel Zelaya, who is currently taking refuge in the Embassy of Brazil in Tegucigalpa. Situation that Hugo Chavez himself admits to be coordinating and financing.
Chavez emphasized that declarations from the international community have firmly rejected the current situation in Honduras. “It seems to me that world leaders must fix their positions against the savagery occurring in Honduras,” he noted. In his own country, Chavez maintains a tight grip on power throught censorship of the opposition press and by confiscations and strong armed threats and beatings by his street thugs. Public demonstrations against the govenment is punishable in Venezuela by up to 12 years of encarceration.
Chavez went on to say that it is necessary the world make a strategic turn to avoid another era of coups d’états and foreign military interventions and that the international community should be “united in the fight against the evils that torment the world, like hunger, sickness, misery and inequality.”
Chavez went on to shamelessly express his hope that the United States government would help lead the way in this mission, saying; “We would join them in this strategic shift.”
He maintained that Venezuela attends the UN General Assembly, “To speak with a firm and clear voice, as it has always done, and to tell the truth about how we see the world today and how we look at the world of tomorrow.”
Much remains to be done
Ten years ago, world leaders met in the same place to evaluate the Millennium Development Goals and agreed to work hard to reduce hunger, inequality and misery.
However, Chavez continued, “It must be said that we have not succeeded. On the contrary, global hunger, inequality, and misery are worse now than ten years ago, which must call all heads of state and government to reflect.”
Likewise, he mentioned the subject of climate change and how this phenomenon has deteriorated the temperature of the planet.
“In the UN, the governments of the world must lead the way to stop climate change and address emergencies such as Guatemala, Honduras, and Africa. There is hunger in the world, and at the same time great wealth. What a contrast. We have to seek another world soon. It is already being born, but it is a labor that costs dearly because it is a historic birth.”
As has been shown, Chavez and his "Bolivarian Revolution" is supported by the acolyte ALBA group of nations that he helped to create and finanance, such as Honduras' Manuel Zelaya, with Venezuelan petro wealth and FARC guerrilla narco dollars.
